7 - Thinking Too Loud

Some people just think too dang loud.      Porcelain knew she was different aside from her genetic condition. Sometimes, she just 'knew' things, like what she was getting for her birthday or why someone was sad. Learning early on, she was very good at keeping her secret, except from her family of course. Porcelain grew up during the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980's. If she were to tell someone, they likely would have freaked out, called her mother, and who knows what else. That's just how it was.      What was the "Satanic Panic" you ask? It started in the 1970's and escalated into the 80's. Fear of the 'dark arts' and the occult exploded into the mainstream. Being afraid of your neighbors became the norm. There were many allegations against daycares, occult practitioners, interrogations by corrupt therapists and prosecutors, supposed satanic rituals and cult-like animal slaughters happened... The accusations were endless. Remember

Authentic Italian Pasta Recipe

Authentic Italian Pasta (my family recipe) I make this recipe quite a bit! Hope you're hungry! How To Cook The Perfect Steak

How to prepare the perfect beef steak (my family recipe) 1. Prepare your pan. - Turn on medium heat. - Pour a thin layer of olive oil in your pan. - Sprinkle liberally in to the pan: Garlic, basil, cinnamon. - Salt the pan lightly. 2. The beef steak. - Place steak into warm pan. - Sprinkle liberally on top of steak: Garlic, basil, cinnamon. - Salt steak lightly. 3. Place clear lid on pan. *so you can see the steak cooking* 4. After the steak reaches 160F (71C), turn the steak over. - You may want to make a small slit in the steak to see how it's cooking inside. 5. Take out of pan while there is still mostly pink on the inside of the steak. - The amount of time to let it cook depends on how pink you want it to be. 6. Serve with authentic Italian pasta and breadsticks (to soak up all that yummy blood!) Benefits of using cinnamon when cooking steak:  - lowers blood pressure. - helps absorb the nutrients in the steak. - It has anti-inflammatory properties.

6 - Oh The Pastabilities!

Carbs, proteins and fiber oh my!      Ever wondered what we eat? How do we diet? What is our approach to nutrition? According to the experts, no one has the right answer! However, I can tell you what has worked for my family for generations. A high carbohydrate, protein, and fiber diet with tons of veggies is best. Vitamin supplements of D3, Omega 3, and a nice probiotic has been necessary for us to stay healthy. Buckle up! We are going on a journey!  Bet you thought I was going to include something else, didn't you? Just you wait. *wink*      Porcelain and her sister always loved helping their grandmother with cooking in the kitchen. They would help cut up the vegetables that grew in the garden, herbs for sauces, and helped prepared the semolina flour for pasta. Porcelain's family was Italian, and the kitchen was the heart of the home. The sisters spent a lot of their time at the table with their grandmother learning how to make her special sauce. Their mother

5 - What Sharp Teeth You Have!

Image
The dentist's office is never much fun. Imagine having fangs. Yep you heard me, fangs. Porcelain had elongated 'fangs', and they were very sharp.      Porcelain screamed, "OUCH!" as she accidentally punctured her tongue with her sharp teeth. This was the second time that week! How on earth did the nine year old so easily keep putting holes in her tongue? Her mother decided to take a look in her mouth. Sure enough, her daughter's top canines were razor-like knives. At this point, she'd be set if she decided to pierce her tongue when she was older!      Having such teeth for a child was proving to be a disadvantage because her tongue was always sore, although she enjoyed spewing at people and giggled immensely every time. Many in the family had inherited the same shark-like teeth. This wasn't weird to her at all, but when school pictures came around, she would don a closed smile. The other kids didn't have teeth like hers and Porcelain was a

4 - Shadow Jumping

A hop here, a hop there! Can you guess what it is yet?      Porcelain and her sister, Katerina, loved playing together and using their vast imaginations to come up with new games. They grew up in an era of less technology. There was no computer, no cellphone, no iPad to play on at their house. They had limited TV and no cable. Their parents had decided early on that play was more important than sitting in front of the television.  Sure, they had their favorite Saturday morning cartoons, tons of toys and books; but their favorite game was Shadow Jumping.      The sisters would go outside and play when the sun was lower in the sky, hidden behind the thick forest on the horizon. There were several trees in their front yard where leaves created shadows during the day. There were two giant cedars with a wide path between them that led to the covered patio steps. A few willow trees dotted the ground, with fruit trees on either side of the house. A large oak was in the backyard. T

3 - Adventures In Kindergarten (Reuploaded)

Image
Oh boy. This is going to be a loaded post. Are you ready? (reuploaded)      Stress makes any of the 7 porphyrias worse. Erythropoietic protoporphyria is no different. The more stressed out a person gets, the worse their reactions are, the longer it takes them to heal, feel better, etc. Remember that as you read ahead.       Going to kindergarten for the first time should be an fun filled exciting adventure! You learn new things, play with new toys, and meet all these new exciting characters that represent letters! Remember those days? Ah, the memories. Now imagine being this little girl who can't be in the sun, arriving at her new school, meeting other kids her age, and going to her new classroom.      Porcelain met her new kindergarten teacher. We'll call her... Mrs. Red. At first glance, she appeared to be an amazing teacher. Porcelain really liked her. Soon however, the rose-colored image she had of her teacher began to fade. She quickly learned that Mrs. Red did not like it

2 - An Interesting Toddler

Why hello there. Where were we? Ah yes.      Porcelain and her large family lived in a big farmhouse on a small patch of land, outside the city. They insisted living off the land was better for the environment, so they grew a gorgeous garden in their backyard. It contained anywhere from green beans to corn stalks, and herbs grew in droves like flowers along side the house.      Her mother was also adept at making homemade baby food. She didn't like store-bought foods with artificial additives and preservatives. She preferred to use natural ingredients and mash it up herself. She would cook meat and put it through the processor. Porcelain was breastfed, so the lactose intolerance didn't show up until it was time to wean her off breast milk. The reaction was quick. See, lactose intolerance is something that is common among those with EPP. Although the doctors pronounced she had colic, Porcelain's mother knew better. She quickly switched from cows milk to soy fortified wi

1 - In The Beginning

Hmm. Where shall I begin?      It was the Summer of 78. A beautiful baby girl with light purple eyes and golden strawberry hair was born into a family that highly anticipated her arrival. Yes, you heard me right. Light purple eyes. The hospital believed her eyes were too light for the bright nursery. They worried she might be an albino child. Quite frankly, according to the mother of this beautiful baby girl, the child scared the hell out of all the nurses.      See, when most of us are born in our family, we have purple eyes, sometimes pale blue, but mostly purple. They turn blue or green within a couple of days, which is what happened to this baby girl. We are fiercely protective of our offspring when they are born though, because hospitals, doctors and specialists seem to want to turn us into guinea pigs or look at us under a microscope any chance they get. This was one of those times.      Oh right, I bet you're curious what this little baby girl was named! Let's call

Welcome to the Crypt.

Welcome to my crypt. I am the Porcelain Vampire.      No, I am not a roleplayer. No, I am not a life-styler. No, I do not turn into a bat. Want to know more about me? Profile is over there, go check it out. ;)      Have you ever wanted to be a real vampire? Have you ever actually understood what that would mean? This is the story about myself. I come from a family of real vampires. We are quite literally allergic to the sun. It can burn us, blister us, & even send us to the hospital. What is this condition, you may ask? Porphyria.      Porphyria has long been described as a harmful phototoxic reaction of the skin to the sun. There's a lot more to it than that, but we will leave this description for now. The legend of the vampire may have been largely to blame for this genetic blood disorder. That's right, a blood disorder. Porphyrins are in everyone's blood. People with this genetic blood disorder just happened to have a lot more of them react to sunlight, causin
