25 Weather Stories

This is going to be a fun post. You're totally going to laugh at me.

In the Spring of 2010, we had our usual rainy weather. Porcelain's daughter was in school, while she was at home that day. The rain poured down as if someone left a shower on and the tub began to run over. A monsoon of rain. Then the skies finally cleared, or so she thought. To her horror, hail began pouring down just as spirited as the rain. She immediately thought, “Tornado. Must be a tornado”.

She didn't even think to check the color of the sky before calling her daughter's school asking them if they were going to release the kids early, or hold them there for parents to pick up. The woman on the other side of the phone was quiet for a moment. Finally she spoke, saying, "Ooooh. You must be new. Don't worry, tornadoes just don't happen here." Porcelain had felt so embarrassed, but decided later on that her reaction was pretty funny.

If you think that's something, just wait till I tell you about the following June.

Harmony's 3rd year of elementary school was over and school was out for summer. She was so excited to get ice cream (non-dairy of course) with her mom after school! As Porcelain walked up holding an umbrella to pick her up, Harmony's eyes moved from her mom to the sky, and the white stuff falling to the ground... That was sticking!

Harmony was so upset. How could this be?? It's June!! Her mom took pictures of her reaction, which was hilariously unimpressed! She really thought her afternoon was ruined and she wouldn’t be getting that ice cream. A scowl set upon her face. Her mom told her they would have to stop by the house first to get their winter coats.

Then Harmony's eyes lit up and a smile spread across her face. "Really?? We can still get ice cream?" she exclaimed. Her mother laughed lightly and answered, "Yes, of course we can. The snow’s not gonna stick; it's summertime,” Porcelain had never seen a kid put on a winter coat so fast, as fast as Harmony did when they had gotten home. Then off they went to get that ice cream!

The weather in their town could be quite unpredictable, but not dangerous at all really. They didn't live in the flood zone of the city, and the high wind storms rarely did anything but knock the power out a couple of times a year. It was a challenge to grow a garden there, but other than that it was perfect.

It was home.
